Kühloch Nr.3

Once again a nice afternoon session at the Kühloch in Frankenjura. Enjoy!

Small trip in the Alps – Silvretta & Laax

We had two weeks for this trip. First we checked out the Silvapark. It is a small but very nice bouldering area in the Silvretta mountain range. The weather was perfect and we met some other guys there. So some pictures of that.

After that we headed out to Laax. In winter it is one of the more crowded areas because of the ski and snowboarding. But in summertime it is almost quiet. The weather was more than rainy. Some days it was hard to get even out without being soaked wet within minutes. But when the rain stops I went out to get some new macroshots. It is hard to get good shots in the dark light and wind but with some patience there are some good shots. And it is incredible what you can see when you look for the small things. Ants fighting and killing each other or all the small insects looking for prey or being the prey.

My girlfriend found an old robe in the attic so we decided to have some fun and try some outdoorportraits. It is something to work with. I think I will try some more pictures like that. It has something surreal.

And last but not least some landscapes. Thats the good thing with bad weather. There is always a dark and threatening mood. Enjoy!

Kühloch Nr.2 and some more Frankenjura

Testing a new swing for taking pictures in the wall on a fixed rope. Very comfy I have to say. Okey, it was improvised out of a bigger branch, two slings and a lot of quickdraws, after my legs almost died of hanging in the fixed rope for about 20 minutes. But it worked fine and I will construct a lighter and better version of this  prototype.

Usually the weather in the Frankenjura is more or less rainy this time of year. But not this year. The forests are dark as always and when you forget your speedlights and want to do a small shooting in a cave it is hard to get the shutter speed you need to freeze the movement. But somehow I managed to get some shots of the nice route called „Walk the Line“. Also the Weißenstein is not far away for some classics.

As always, click to enlarge.

Zamonien – Frankenjura

Hidden in the forests of the Ailsbachtal above a small stream lies the crag Zamonien. A small but very nice crag and pretty easy to take climbing pictures. No jumars, no fixed ropes. Another cliff where you can walk up easily stands to the right. Once again it is pretty dark between the trees. But that is a common problem for climbing pictures in the Frankenjura when you just want to use available light. Enjoy!

Kühloch – Frankenjura

Another nice session at the Kühloch in the Frankenjura. Known for its notorious bolting it is one of the best crags we have in the Frankenjura. Routes like „Reise nach Indien“ or „Reif für die Insel“ just have three bolts the whole 20m. Sadly it is more or less dark in the woods so I had to crank up the ISO pretty much. Nevertheless enjoy and more to come!

Padani 2014 – Bouldering in Petrohrad

Same same but different. Year after year we are coming to Petrohrad in Czech Republic. It is a such a nice place to hang out. Every year the organizers are cleaning tons of new boulderproblems, that’s the different part. The same part is, that after one day your skin is sore, you need tape and it hurts to press the shutter on the camera. This year almost all boulders where in one spot, so there were way too many people running around and in my frame. I like clean pictures without many distractions. But nevertheless here are some impressions.

Red Line – Frankenjura

Here are some pictures of „Red Line“ 7c in Frankenjura. One of the best faceclimbs in this grade here. Enjoy!

Cadarese: Tradclimbing and Nature

Last year we read about an small crag in northern Italy where you can find one of the biggest concentration of cracks in the alps in one crag. This crag is called Cadarese. After our experiences in the US that sounded really good. So we packed all the cams and stuff together and drove down to Val Formazza. Arriving at night we had the first look on the crack the next morning and it was like: Well, that doesn’t look so good. But when we finished the hike up to the cliff we weren’t disappointed. More than 50 routes and almost everyone is a crack more or less. Perfect splitters, dihedrals and offwidths. From finger to chimney you can choose what ever you want. So before you think there will be a lot of climbing pictures … sorry, more nature this time. It is hard to belay and being in the wall taking pictures the same time. But we will be back, taking more people with us and then there will be nice photos of tradclimbing again.

Val Formazza is a very beautiful valley with a lot to discover like slotcanyons. Yep, there’re some. Sadly because I didn’t expect to find such a beautiful place I didn’t take my tripod for the trip … lesson learned. Always take your tripod with you. All the pictures are handheld.

And here are two more pictures of lizards decaying. The first one I think fell to its death and scavengers already were hard working. The second is an totaly different story. It looked like it was infested with ticks. Not just one but many and many more. The first moment I was thinking it was alive and sneaked up to it but then I realized it was already dead.

Playing around

Just a snapshot of our new roommate catching some flies. Trying some new off camera flash things. Next week some new tradclimbing pics of Cadarese, Italy.

This and that
